Rey Misterio Jr.

May 7-11, 1997
by Kathy Fitzpatrick

Q: How long have you been wrestling?
RMJ: I started training when I was 7 years old, and started wrestling at 15. I'm now 22.

Q: What difference, if any, in your opinion, is there between wrestling in Mexico and in the States?
RMJ: First, different psychology... in Mexico, the pace is a lot faster, you wrestle a lot faster. Here in the states, size and weight is different, you have bigger wrestlers. The Japanese style is a mix of Mexican and American.

Q: How do you come up with some of the moves you do?
RMJ: That's part of me. Something comes into my head, and if I like it, and I think I can do it, I practice it, and if it comes out I do it in the ring.

Q: Any injuries from these wild moves?
RMJ: A few, mostly knees, ankles, and elbows; but I think my head is OK for awhile...

Q: Sure about that?
RMJ: I think so for awhile

Q: You worked in ECW... How did you enjoy that expereince?
RMJ: It was a good experience. It was my first time working in the States. The crowd was really hot. I really adapted to that style of wrestling.

Q: I want to congratulate you and your wife Annie on the birth of your son Dominick. Is it true that he was bigger than Kevin Nash's baby?
RMJ: I'm not sure...he was 8 lb. 10 oz., but he is a big, big, boy. Of course he will be raised and educated the right way. He has a great mom and dad.

Q: What is your opinion of wrestling these days?
RMJ: I think it's great. I think now that American wrestling has brought in all this Mexican talent, and people are starting to like that. Wrestling has gone on to another level.

Q: Well, I want to thank you for being friendly and easy to talk to. Your friendship has always been special to me.
RMJ: I always have a good time with you, Kathy. Hopefully, you can come and visit a lot more, so we can all get together
